Final essay

Final Essay

Labor journal week 12

1. I think my labor was good this week, I completed my essay and was just tweaking it here and there to make it better. I think there is still more I can do to make it better. I think that getting the essay finished and having something there was my priority and now I can spend the rest of the time to revise it and perfect it. 2. I think the concept of revision is pretty straight forward but at the same time subjective to everyone’s writing. I think what we learned was knowledge that we already had but just not something that was always on our minds when revising papers. The idea of having structure not only while writing your essay but also while revising it is a very good one and can help making the revising process much easier. 3. High - the structure of my paragraphs and sentences, making sure I don’t have useless info Mid - the grammar and sentence structure and making sure I don’t have run on’s or grammar problems Low - punctuation, periods and commas, capitalization, etc. ...

Labor journal week 11

1. This week I spent most of my labor on working on my entire essay and making a complet and coherent essay. I wrote the extra body paragraphs and changed the things I needed to in my other body paragraphs and tried to make my essay glue together well and then I wrote the conclusion as well. 2. I think my take away from this week is that when I sit down and get into study mode and just write down my entire essay while I am in that mode then I get things done very quickly. I think in terms of studying and work for school that is the way I work best, I did multiple assignments for different classes all in around 2 hours. The only problem is that it is kind of hard to get into that mindset and environment. 3. I think my conclusion is pretty decent, I may change things to make my thesis a little bit clearer and slim I t down a bit but I think it is a decently solid conclusion. Before I did my conclusion I finished all of the body paragraphs so I think that having all of the information...

Book club 2

How do you personally relate to the author's story so far?  If you don't why do you think that is?  What is it about your personal history or positionality that differs from theirs so fundamentally that you cannot relate? I think the story of the author is very easy to relate to on a general level. The premise that Trevor Noah is setting is a relatable setting in terms of relating to the idea of looking back on our past experiences and learning from them. But when looking at the specifics events that have happened in Trevor Noah's life, it seems kind of hard to relate. I do not think that I have ever been thrown out of a car by my own mother. I also did not ever go to church so his descriptions and stories of being in white and black church and talking about the differences between the too churches is not easy to relate to when I think of my own life. Personally I think that everyone has different experiences and can somehow relate to others in certain ways but in the end...

Book Club response 1

I believe that for Trevor Noah's book that he will mainly talk about his experiences and how he grew up. I think that he will go into specifics about certain events in his life that have affected him and knowing his personality and how he writes I think that he will add in certain events that are more lighthearted to keep his book and story from getting too serious. His book seems to be a casual fun read about his life and I very much enjoy that type of style. It is an interesting, deep yet casual and easy read and I don't think he will be giving out life lessons but give more of a subjective life story and view on things. I think that he will write about his experiences and make jokes here and there and give his analysis using hindsight on the situations that he has been through. I do think he will go more in depth with his mother and the multiple jobs he has had throughout his life and how he ended up in comedy.

1. My essay is decent so far. I still need to figure some body paragraphs out and use the quotes in a decent manner. I worked on the intro but I think it may be to long and vague so I should shorten it a bit. I have some body paragraphs but I still need to flesh them out a bit more. 2. I think the renegotiation went very well. Many points were given and they were all valid. I think that the contract is in a good state. 3. I think that this class is good, we learn a lot not just about English but about ourselves and society. I think that the way of writing in this class has been very freeing and liberating compared to previous English courses.

Quick write for spring break

1. I think I am ok with my grade for now, I don’t know exactly what grade I have but I saw that I have missed or have around 3 late assignments. I think that I shouldn’t have missed them but most of them had to do with the essay that we are working on. Personally I like to just do my essays in one go and not space out the work because I tend to forget a lot of things if it I am not currently working on it. 2. I think I am doing ok, just tired as usual. I think I have a lot of things to be thinking about such as all school work, organization events and meetings, and finding a house for the summer so I have a lot on my mind but I wouldn’t say it is super overwhelming. I don’t have many questions. 3. I think I need to either get used to certain ways of writing essays/learning or just do it my own way. The contract is fine in my opinion the only thing I would change is the way we are writing our essays. I think the check ins are nice but I would rather just write the whole essay in one...
