Labor journal week 12

1. I think my labor was good this week, I completed my essay and was just tweaking it here and there to make it better. I think there is still more I can do to make it better. I think that getting the essay finished and having something there was my priority and now I can spend the rest of the time to revise it and perfect it.

2. I think the concept of revision is pretty straight forward but at the same time subjective to everyone’s writing. I think what we learned was knowledge that we already had but just not something that was always on our minds when revising papers. The idea of having structure not only while writing your essay but also while revising it is a very good one and can help making the revising process much easier.

3. High - the structure of my paragraphs and sentences, making sure I don’t have useless info
Mid - the grammar and sentence structure and making sure I don’t have run on’s or grammar problems
Low - punctuation, periods and commas, capitalization, etc.

Throughout the next week I will work on these things from high to low and finalize my essay.

Email: Thank you for the response. I feel that the feedback is accurate. I have now realized that I completely forgot the works cited page as well as a 4th source and this was a mishap on my side. I plan to add the 4th source and a works cited page before I post it on my portfolio. I think that the book club this semester is very good. I enjoy my book. The only complaints I would have is that it seemed a little bit rushed for some reason but it might just be because we are doing it during the latter half of the semester rather than the first half. Questions I have for essay 3 is how long it would be, whether or not it should be longer or shorter than our previous essays and it seems like we have much less time to work on it. But I am ok with that. I am interested to know what the prompt for the essay is and how we will write it.

How does your author's personal life relate to larger social issues?  Is that an essential part of a powerful narrative?  Why or why not? My authors personal life relates to larger social issues because his life was surrounded by poverty and the issue of identity. The ideas that Trevor Noah puts forth are all very relevant to our social issues today. Many people have a problem finding their own identity and understanding who they are and it is exemplified in the book when Trevor describes his childhood and his life and how his race has affected who he is. I believe that the ideas that stem from his personal life and connect to larger social issues are all very essential to the narrative and move the story forward with good development and pacing.
